Myreta Murray Judkins, age 95 passed away February 21, 2014
at her home in Boise, Idaho. She passed quickly and quietly in the arms of her
loved ones.
Myreta was born January 8, 1919 in Enterprise, Utah to Robert M. and Milda Holt Murray. She lived in Enterprise until she was 4 years old. She then moved to Tooele, Utah and lived there until she was 16. The family then moved to Murray, Utah and resided on 4500 South.
Myreta graduated from Murray High School in 1937, with only 85 additional graduates. She ran the 440 in track and played on the basketball and softball teams.
Her first job outside of raising 3 younger brothers was at Tyler's Ice Cream Shop, where she worked for 3 years.
Myreta married Newell E. Judkins on November 8, 1937 in Salt Lake City, Utah. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City Temple.
Newell was called to serve in the Army and left Myreta with a 6 week old son. This was hard on both of them. After the war, they settled back again in Murray, Utah and built a home on Rainbow Drive in 1940.
In 1960, they moved to Clearfield, Utah. Myreta went to work at Hill Air Force Base in 1961 in Central Procurement until she retired in 1982, after 21 years. She stayed there until 1990 when she moved back to Murray, Utah, so she could be closer to more of her family. In 2002, she decided to move to Boise, Idaho to be with her son and daughter in law. They cared for her until her death.
Myreta is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints. She belonged to the Murray 3rd Ward, Clearfield 3rd Ward, Murray Spring Tree Ward and the Meridian 16th Ward in Boise, Idaho. She served in many ward and stake callings, including Primary President, Sunday School, Primary, Relief Society and Young Women's.
Myreta also served as President of the Murray Ladies Civic Guild and was a chartered member. She was also a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers and the Literary Guild of Clearfield.
Myreta is survived by her children, Jerrold M. Judkins and his dear wife, Melba, Julee J. Hicks and her husband, David, all of Boise, Idaho. Myreta has six grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, R. Fenton Murray of Murray, Utah.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Newell E. Judkins and one son, N. Jay Judkins, two brothers, Leo Murray and Wendol Murray and three sisters in law, Delsa Murray, Betty Murray and Norma Murray.
There will be a viewing on Friday, February 28th from 6-8 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State, Murray, Utah. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 1st at the Home Stead Ward located at 5605 South Vine (700 East), Murray, Utah. Friends and family may also visit at the church house on March 1st from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Interment will be at Murray City Cemetery.
